Having healthy, beautiful hair when you return from vacation will depend on including several (or all) of these habits in your summer routine without rushing.
Stop searching, stop reading articles, stop listening to podcasts. We'll make it easy for you. The only way to get to fall with great hair is to prevent it and start taking care of it now. No stress, no drama about where I'm going with this hair.
First of all, what happens to my hair in the summer? Well, like almost everything in life, it's a matter of a combination of factors: external and internal. Knowing them is the first step to avoiding them or mitigating their effects. We've explained them all in a little box you'll find throughout the post (it's important that you read it), but we're here to give you solutions, and that's it.
We're sorry to break it to you, but it's true: summer is all bad news for maintaining the health of our hair. The sun doesn't do anything good for it, it's unable to synthesize any vitamins, and all the summer factors (heat, solar radiation, chlorine, salt, etc.) can be very harsh on our hair.
The good news: there's still time! And if you follow the advice in our 'Essential Summer Hair Care Guide,' you'll have summery hair and perfect hair when you return to normal life. We've divided it into two parts to make it easy and simple:
Routines at home
1. Wash your hair every day with a shampoo that is respectful of the structure of our hair. (that doesn't destroy your natural defense mechanisms) and provides a deep cleanse and replenishes the nutrients we lose. As we always say: there's no perfect shampoo, just the one that's perfect for you, your hair type, and your personal needs.
At Botánicapharma, we have eSSential, a line of shampoos free of sulfates, silicones, and parabens, consciously formulated to care for your hair. We'll tell you much more about our shampoo line in this post. post (so you can read it under the umbrella).
Any shampoo from the eSSential line deeply removes traces of salt and chlorine, as well as other protective products we've used throughout the day. The following infographic shows its most notable features. Think about your hair's weak spots, where it needs a little boost to stay healthy, and that's yours.
Our advice: it's not a life-changing decision; do it however you feel best, because the important thing is to make it a habit. You can choose two and alternate between them, for example: a deep cleanse with tea tree oil to combat the chlorine in the pool, and a restorative cleanse with hyaluronic acid and keratin to give it that boost of hydration and vitality. Or you can choose days (only if you're going out to sea) where you do a deep rinse and don't use either. Go with the flow; it's summer!
2. Do the final rinse with cold water. It seals the cuticles and makes your hair shinier. So easy and invigorating! We can't resist giving you a little "feel better" tip: stop that cold rinse on your legs. If you want to know more, keep reading. here for light legs.
3. Wear a mask daily. No, it's not excessive. Just as we moisturize our skin after sun exposure, we should do the same with our hair. You can replace the conditioner with the mask every day, and what you can do less frequently (once a week) is leave it on for 20 minutes.
Our eSSential line is completed with a mask with a formula loaded with oils like Coconut, Apricot, and Shea butter that penetrates deeply into the hair fiber, hydrating and nourishing it to provide strength, shine, and protection from solar radiation. And it smells great too! A true delight for your hair.
4. Finally, another preventative tip that we don't recommend you do at home (although you could). Some experts recommend cut the tips just before summer. Keeping your hair healthy is the best way to keep it that way. Cutting it off by 2 or 3 centimeters (no more is needed) strengthens the ends, making them less exposed to external stressors. You'll prevent excessive damage and brittle, fragile hair.
FEEL BETTER
✺ UV rays They damage the hair cuticle, causing dehydration, loss of shine, and split ends. Hair becomes drier, brittle, and lifeless.
✺ Chlorine removes natural oils and sea salt It further dehydrates, making hair rough, brittle, and prone to frizz and color loss.
✺ Sweat and humidity They promote the accumulation of sebum and residue on the scalp, weakening the follicles and causing hair loss, frizz and breakage.
✺ In summer people tend to drink less water and eat less balanced food, which reduces the supply of essential nutrients and weakens the hair.
✺ Increased sun exposure can alter hormonal levels and affect the hair cycle, promoting seasonal hair loss.
Routines abroad
1. Rinse with water after each bath. It is essential if you leave the pool to go through the shower to remove the chlorine from your hair (and skin).
2. Use oils to nourish your hair and make it look spectacular. For us, oils are essential for skin and hair care. Our oils are 100% natural, pure, and in most cases extracted from the first cold pressing, without additives or perfumes.Discover them here). We recommend sweet almond oil, for its nourishing properties, and jojoba oil, which is rich in ceramides.
3. Accessories (also) are for hair. Use fabric scrunchies instead of hair bands. When wet and exposed to external influences, our hair is at its most fragile, and this type of accessory helps you take better care of it. And we know you love your hair flowing freely and that high bun at the beach, but... prioritize braids; your hair will thank you for it.
