At Christmas we are filled with good wishes and one of them may be welcome a pet. Whether you already share your life with a furry one or are thinking about adopting one, we want to share this with you. Decalogue of respectful care for animals.
Before taking the step, It is very important that you know what this means for you and your family, (in addition to lots of happiness and good times), so that you can do it responsibly and get all members involved in their care.
It is undeniable that Pets improve our lives. They provide companionship, exercise, calm, and tons of affection.
To achieve all this, we must cover their needs and think of them as another member of the family, that will need quality time, a portion of your budget, medical care, and lots of love.
It seems obvious, but on many occasions It is unknown what the well-being of our pet entails, so we bring you this decalogue which begins with the 5 freedoms of animals established by the OMSA.
- Make sure your animal is free from hunger, thirst, and malnutrition.
- Make sure your pet is free from fear and anxiety.
- They should never suffer physical or thermal discomfort.
- They must be free from pain, injury and disease.
- Animals must be free to display natural behavior.
- Make sure you can cover all of these needs from the moment they become part of your family until the day they die.
- With the new animal protection law, you must have liability insurance for your pet.
- Spend quality time with your pet and give it lots of affection; this will prolong its quality and years of life.
- Vet visits should be regular to check everything is okay and keep them healthy. Remember, they can't tell us if something's wrong with them!
- Maintain your pet's routines whenever possible: walk times, mealtimes, even bath times. This will provide them with rest, balance, and well-being.
FEELING GOOD
We have mentioned hygiene as something global, but this includes taking special care with some delicate parts of our furry friends. In the case of dogs, their paws suffer greatly from temperature changes and walks outside.
In particular, their pads are very delicate and we must ensure that they are hydrated and repaired for the animal's comfort.
Supplements can also be very necessary on specific occasions for your pet, for their cognitive health, their joints or their immune system, that's why a veterinary check-up is so necessary so that the specialist can recommend at all times what your furry friend may need and how to help him.
If you think the list of care needs is too long, you haven't yet experienced the many benefits of having a pet.
Sharing your life with one or more furry friends It is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life. And if you also decide to adopt, you'll be saving a life. Spain continues to lead European countries in animal abandonment, and that's something we must eradicate as soon as possible. Do your part!
